Read MoreIt’s a big day for jazz fans with LEGO’s latest Ideas set, the Jazz Quartet. So, in BrickNerd fashion, let’s take a look at some other jazz-inspired MOCs from around the community.
Read MoreWe take a closer look at an incredibly large LEGO Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, built by Sebastien Racicot and inspired by a single element. Can you guess which one?
Read MoreI don’t know who this lovely young lass from Eero Okkonen is, I know I could learn more on his website but time is short this morning. I can assure you this, she would mop the floor with me, I mean absolutely and totally demolish me. While I was going “oh” and “ah” at her nifty axe she would simply dispatch me and move on, you have to respect that.
I have many a fond memories of Gargoyles both in its original run in the mid-nineties and then catching reruns on the Disney Channel in college. The characters were fun, the voice acting was enjoyable and includes many Star Trek actors (TNG and Voyager), and had a great urban fantasy / Sci-Fi combo going. The third season did lose its way a bit, (that is covered in-depth elsewhere), but overall a very fun show. Daniel Jackson re-watched the series a few years back and built Goliath as he awakes in 2017 and is just now sharing it with us. He’s captured the charter well, Goliath is instantly recognizable, and the 1x1 stone flecks are a nice touch. He also built Goliath’s once love interest and often foil Demona. The choice of skyscraper backdrop for these pictures really sells the picture. They are just cartoony enough and match the series aesthetic nicely.
Any time I hear "Queen of hearts" two things happen: I think of the character from Disney's animated classic Alice in Wonderland (not the Burton film, she was just weird) and that terrible song (which will now be stuck in my head the rest of the damn day). I would really like to shift those things to this imposing but beautiful lady by builder LegoWyrm, I'd much rather think of her. Of course we'll have to wait and see (fingers crossed). But for now, the terrible song continues in my skull...
I remember as a young fan of Star Wars, upon probably the 40th or so viewing, thinking to myself "those backpacks must be their environmental packs". You know, keeping them cool in such a hot climate. In reality it added an additional 45 pounds of weight to an already heavy and hot costume, those actors and extras suffered for our entertainment. Still, Sandtroopers were badass, and this figure by LEGO 7 is no less impressive.
Rogue One has a few things unique to the Star Wars universe, which always struck me as a little odd since it's a prequel to A New Hope. For instance take the Death Troopers, Director Krennic's personal hit squad. We've never seen them before, at least not in the movies. Then again they're so badass I don't care. Check out this rendition by builder nobu_tary, complete with Jen's stormtrooper doll, perfect.
Builder Pate-keetongu is back with the second in his series of goddesses based on the elements. This time it's Kuohu, goddess of streams, waves, oceanic trenches and dew, and she's a beauty. Like his series based on the seasons, each figure is totally unique, and styled in a way that reflects her realm. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.
So, how's the weather where you are? If it's a gorgeous day, sunny with mild temperatures and little wind you might have this lady to thank. This is Cielan, Goddess of skies, clouds, weathers and all things aerial according to builder Pate-keetongu. She's colorful, charismatic, and let's face it, sexy. And the use of the vahki crests for her hair just adds evidence to my arguement that there are no "useless" pieces, just those that lack the imagination to implement them.
I haven't played the game Shining Hearts, and it turn out builder Pate-keetongu hasn't either, but that didn't stop him from building this lovely lass, and I won't let it stop me from posting her. She's an absolute beauty, from her golden locks to her crimson red boots, she's sexy from top to bottom.
She's sexy, she's confident, she's swift. Meet Octana, a pilot in the Formula Zero Gravity league. The classic color combination makes her instantly identifiable as a racer. It's a little difficult to gauge the durability of this model, but it certainly appears like it would be a great template for an animation figure, hmmm...
Builder Pate-keetongu is back with another gorgeous vixen. Meet Adela, who's motivations are mysterious, but beauty is undeniable. And just as lovely as this build is it's also impressive from a number of standpoints including technique and pose-ability. Eero also has a lot of the story behind the build and decisions made during it on his newly revamped website, I recommend giving it a read.
Deadpool continues to smash box-office records (I saw it, it's awesome!) and of course he's always been a popular subject with builders and cosplayers so he's been in my flickr feed in numerous forms the last few weeks. But very few of those MOCs have caught my attention as much as this figure from nobu_tary. The pose, posture, styling and detail on this figure is top-notch. And the use of the axe blades for the eyes is sheer brilliance.
Having just survived the weekend this MOC by MSP! sorta makes me want to get to the next one. Not that I'm much of a drinker, the exact opposite in fact, but there's a local place called Native Tongue that serves pretzels and cider, yum! I can just see this girl a few stools down from me and Mrs. BrickNerd as we enjoy our snack and drinks.
I am continually impressed and amazed what Bionicle builders can achieve with that system. This large figure by Moko has tons of familiar shapes and parts, but combined in this fashion they are utterly transformed into an impressive and imposing character. The pose-ability of this MOC is stunning too, click through for more pics and check out Moko's blog.
I was just thinking about stormtroopers while I was making my tea, then I go to my Flickr feed and see this awesome MOC by umamen. This is fantastic! I love that it is posable, and has different configurations, like a Han Solo head. But the stand out feature to me is that helmet, wow!
It's so good to see a fantastic builder find that spark again. I just blogged Bill Vollbrecht yesterday, but this is so cool I just have to share (plus it's from Star Wars, what kind of nerd would I be if I overlooked it?) This Gamorrean Pig Guard is classic, studs up figure construction at it's finest, and I totally dig it.
I know I don't feature Bionicle or Hero Factory often enough on the blog (or Technic, GBC, Military, SHIPS, Collaborations etc etc) but this MOC by Moko grabbed me by the pupils and throttled me. Check out the contouring and proportions on this guy! I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the pose-ability of this MOC since it's got ball and socket joints, but it's excellent.
