A-3B Skywarrior

I have undeniable ties to the US Navy. My father served and so did my father-in-law. While my dad  never talked much about his service, my wife's father told me some very interesting stories about being a radar operator on an S2F Tracker. If I had to guess, there were at least a few of these A-3Bs on the aircraft carrier as well. Builder Mad Physicist has done it again with a large scale aircraft of one of the Navy's largest aircraft (they didn't call it "the whale" for nothing). It's loaded with details including foldable wings, articulated air brakes and an opening escape hatch. SHOK|AAHN Starfighter!

(Smarmy Radio Host's voice)  Good morning LEGO fans!  It's going to be a No-Mech Weekend here on Bricknerd!  Kicking it off is Jeremy Williams with his killer new Xylian starfighter.  Used to combat raiders and smugglers, this little beauty really packs a wollup!  And what better song to get the party started than this! 

U-Wing Starfighter

The U-Wing is an exciting addition to the fleet of Star Wars. I will admit when I first saw it in the trailer for Rogue One my first thought was "uh oh, a new ship, this is going to get fan boys' panties in a twist." And of course soon after I starting seeing comments like "how come we don't see those in episode 4?" I don't know if it's a legitimate complaint, I don't want to take a position on it. I think it's a cool ship, and I enjoyed seeing it in action in the movie. So did builder JBIronWorks, who crafted this brilliant minifigure scale one that puts the official set to shame.

Hornet

It's been a while since we've featured some good old Neo Classic Space. I really like the use of the large canopy and staggered seating of the pilot and gunner in this fighter by ZCerberus. It's sort of a optimistic future aesthetic mixed with modern apache kickassery. I think if I saw this coming over the horizon I'd be simultaneously sincerely admiring and pooping my pants.

P-51

While the corsair is my favorite WWII fighter, the mustang is a close second. Most planes of the era were so drab (literally) and unexciting, but not the mustang, she was shiny, fast and beautiful. This version by Milan CMadge is the best I've seen at this scale, right down to the dihedral. 

Me 109

The messershmidt Bf-109 is as iconic a WWII aircraft as you can get. I don't want to glorify war, but that was a golden age of aviation, and both the axis and the allies both stepped up with some major innovation. This version, and updated model by Daniel Siskind, can actually be yours in the near future from Brickmania.

Skydent Fighter

I was in the mood for some Neo Classic Space goodness this morning, luckily Horcik Designs was there to hook me up. This fighter has a pretty nice balance of greebles and classic inspiration. It sorta reminds me of a Jedi Starfighter (one of the few prequel ships I actually like) with a taste of good old 497.

LL-962 "Arrow"

Here's a sleek neo classic space beauty from builder and phenomenal photographer agaethon29. I've been admiring his photography for over a year, and he may not build very often, but when he does...wow! This is like the illegitimate love child of the Galaxy Explorer and the Moonbase Interceptor, and I love it.

Juggernaut

No, not the Marvel Comic character.  In this case it's a kick-arse spaceship by my old pal Tim Clark.  Based on an image he found online, it took him a while to gather the appropriate bricks for the project.  Loaded with weapons and greebley goodies, the photo editing really brings it to life.  Gotta love the look of bley with red stripes...  Wicked!

Sun-Runner Y7

David Steeves has come up with this intimidating pirate escort fighter/interceptor.  Gotta love the flag, just so there's absolutely no question about who you're dealing with.  A classic pirate ship's mast as a mega blaster is a clever detail, too.  Seeing that there's only the one gun, I assume the ship can be configured depending on which side the pilot's eye patch is on...

Neophyter F6 Type

The king of the greeb is back. Pete "Legoloverman" Reid needs no introduction. Between his excellent Space book and his phenomenal LEGO Ideas Exo-Suit, he's practically a household name. This fighter is a bit of a departure from the color scheme of neo classic space, but it's a welcome change. And just look at the greebly goodness on the belly, lovely.

Lego Junkie is no stranger to this blog, but he is somewhat of a stranger to neo classic space. But for the Interstellar Outpost Contest on Flickr, he has gone NCS, and the results speak for themselves. The off-center cockpit is actually a contest rule, and should make for some very interesting entries. It's done to perfection in this little fighter.
