The Library From Beauty And The Beast

BrickCon 2019 is over, and I had a blast. Among the many notable events this year were: My wife came with me (her first BrickCon), I walked just about 20 miles over the four days, I was given a Nerdly 10-Doh (thanks Mike!) and I was co-coordinator for the Pop Culture theme (with the great Brandon Griffith). Of course there were a great number of fantastic MOCs in our theme, but this incredible library from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast by builder ssential was a stand out. So much so that me and Brandon awarded it “Best Picture”, and I’m pleased to announce it went on to earn “Best in Show” for BrickCon 2019. Have you ever really listened to the first song of Disney's Beauty and the Beast? It has always struck me as odd that the entire town is put off by Belle because she's both, get this, pretty and well-read. They're really upset that this little lady is not only attractive, but has the gall to read! Builder retinence is not put off by this though, and celebrates Belle's beauty and favorite activity in this wonderful creation.

Tale As Old As Time

Builder M<0><0>DSWIM imagines the classic tale of Beauty and the Beast with a little less romance and a lot more machine oil. Meet Belle and the Beast, two mobile suits that are turning this story on it's head. I do have to wonder how it might be possible for beast to imprison her in his castle, I think she'd just kick his ass.

I really have nothing to say about these two lovely and cute character creations by Gregory Coquelz. They're both so well done at such a small scale, with lovely expressions that still capture the iconic appearance of these characters. Simple pieces and some creative character building on show right here!

Nathaniel Stoner

     My name is Nathaniel Stoner, and I am an very active LEGO builder.  I mostly build in the themes of castle and science-fiction, but I also dabble in other genres and create occasional random MOC's (My Own Creations). 

     When I was younger, I would get and build small LEGO sets for my birthday, but I was never really into them.  When they fell apart, I would become frustrated attempting to put them back together and would throw them in a box in my closet.  I couldn't stand them!

     Then, miraculously, I became addicted to the LEGO brick later in my teen years.  Ever since, I have continued to build up (pun intended) my collection of bricks and to expand my knowledge of techniques and building skills.  LEGO is truly more than a toy, its an art form and a way to express yourself.

     For the most part, I collect LEGO Star Wars (mainly the minifigs), which is probably my favorite LEGO theme.  I have a fairly decent collection, including some of the original 1999 sets, such as the Snowspeeder, X-Wing, and Naboo starfighter.  I also collected LEGO the Lord of the Rings when those sets first came out.  The minifigs are great, and the story remains one of my favorites ever. 

     My hope is to inspire other young (and perhaps even older) LEGO builders to unleash their inner creativity!  You can find me on my Flikr here. 

Lumière and Chip Are Our Guests

With this weekend's release of Disney's live action Beauty and the Beast remake, it's appropriate that we feature these two models this evening.  BrickinNick created an amusing pair, both equally full of character.  I really want to carry Lumière down a dark hallway, and I'd love to take a soothing drink with Chip.  I'd be in pleasant company in both situations.  Who is your favorite?

Belle And Beast Dance

Ah, a little bit of Disney magic for us. Builder Amida Na has crafted a beautiful and functional music box featuring Belle and Beast dancing. Cogsworth, Lumiere and Mrs. Potts have turned up to watch as well. It's all in a fantastic enclosure with fitting details like the enchanted rose. Check out the video to see it in action. 

Lumière

I'm a big Disney nerd, so when you combine the bricks with the magic, you've got my attention. I'm also a fan of secondary characters in Disney animated features. I always think they have the best lines and get up to the most mischief. Sure Simba is the star, but Timon and Pumba are way more interesting. And Belle and Beast had a nice story to tell, but my favorite characters are Lumière and Cogsworth. Speaking of Lumière, check out this amazing MOC by Koen, perfect!

First blood has been drawn in the latest Iron Builder. This round pits Siercon and Coral vs the Brothers Falworth, and it should be a good one. The seed part is a flexible green spike.

Enchanted Rose

Siercon and Coral were first with this rose from Beauty and the Beast. No, LEGO doesn't make glass domes, get over it.

Not to be outdone, Mark of Falworth gives us this nightmare. Personally I think the teddy bear isn't afraid, teddy bears are our secret protectors.
