Read MoreI love how my daily quest for interesting LEGO creations has educated me over the past five years. Who would have thought that so much was to be learned of other cultures, events, people and world history through the stacking of bricks? Today I learned of the viking conquest of the coast of Spain in the year 858AD, thanks to this incredible diorama by The Brickstons Group. I could go on and on about all the detail and storytelling of this colossal effort, but it's really best experienced looking for yourself. I highly recommend you click through for loads of pictures.
We've featured these characters a few times here on BrickNerd over the years, and I STILL have no idea who they are (beyond the names and obvious comic origins). But that doesn't diminish my appreciation of a good character build, and this one by lummerlander is a good character build.
My old pal Thorsten Bonsch continues his series from Elder Scrolls Online with this impressive rendition of a Wayshrine. As Thor describes in his post, they're basically jump gates, enabling players to travel between them, from region to region. They vary in design based on the area in which they are built, this one exhibiting Nord architecture. I particularly like what resemble Viking ship's bows at the gable ends of the roof. Nice work there, Thor!
Feast your eyes on this colorful scene by Simon NH! You've got all the elements you need in a Medieval Scandinavian village: Town hall, check; market, check; dock for the weekly supply run, check; and monastery (presumably for beer production), check. What really stands out in this build, aside from all the interesting details and techniques, is the use of every single LEGO color. Nicely done!
Patrick Massey has put the finishing touches on a beautiful replica of a Viking warship! I like that he chose to do the hull with dark brown instead of the typical brown we see in wooden structures. The hull is well-shaped with the wonderful shields staggered on the side of the boat. The crew of this ship will have a strong defence! I think my favorite part of this ship is the dragon head on the bow. It's one of the most accurate I have seen at this scale, and I noticed multiple different Viking ships in the past few months. It would be super cool to see a whole fleet of this particular version!
I think everyone would agree, the vikings were badasses. Conquerers through and through, from fellow norsemen, to other lands and of course the sea. I think I'd consider Isaiah.S a badass too, for conquering this brick-built hull.
I love a little winter scene, and this is a fine example. The cracked ice is a great effect, and the snow caps on everything is very effective. Although it would appear that the little horns are just precariously balanced on those windows. Nice work Lukasz.
