Chilly Exploration

On a distant, frozen world, intrepid scientists endure sub zero temperatures to research renewable energy and explore. Builder Norton74 revives the sub-theme Ice Planet 2002 with this awesome exploration vehicle. It makes me feel like it’s 1993 all over again. I was busy making the switch from creature effects to digital, and getting married, so wasn’t buying much LEGO, but I remember admiring these in the stores. None of the real sets were nearly this cool though.

Railway Snow Plow

Love it or hate it snow sure does get in the way of life. We Northerns have all this fancy equipment for removing snow from all sorts of places, including railroads. For those living in the southern regions of this planet you might think it silly to have a train dedicated to snow removal. But, snow is a fickle thing and it is better to be over prepared for those few days of year when you get multiple feet of the "cold white stuff". Builder Maciej Drwięga seems to think the people of LEGOland are in need of snow removal as well, and as such has presented us with a cool (haha, snow pun!) PKP 411S-121 snow plow.

Winter Fox Hunt

I watched a lot of nature shows when I was a kid, so when I saw this shot of Miro Dudas' new moc, I could almost hear David Attenborough's voice.  Built for a contest on Eurobricks, Miro has captured the action perfectly.  The fox, listening to it's prey scurrying beneath the snow, almost has a smile on its face, ready to strike.  Lunchtime!

Plowing Forward

I love the sense of motion and drama in this MOC by monstrophonic. Here in sunny California, we don't have to contend with much snow, but I've seen some video of trains auto clearing snow from their own tracks and it's spectacular. Well, it's spectacular from a comfortable chair watching YouTube, I imagine in person it's a bit terrifying.

Frozen Shack

First off, everyone look at the front door of this shack and acknowledge the NPU. I mean, seriously, a boat for a front door it doesn't get much better than that folks! I'm also loving all the angles, so many unnaturally delicious ways jaapxaap has put this house together yet made it look congruent. I am, however, a little disappointed in the lack of murder(?) in this scene, though I am hoping we will see that in part 2 of this build.

Mitgardian Trade

This is one of those MOCs that seems simple at first, and then surprises you, then continues to draw you in. The detail seems minimalistic at first, then you realize you've just not really looked. The shapes seem almost crude, then you realize it's because they're effortless. Nice work Gideon.

Yeti Love Christmas

And why not, there's snow everywhere (except where I live, but I'm pretty OK with that), they get to build snow men (their favorite thing to do), and everyone sings "White Christmas" (they think it's about them, but please don't tell them it's not, it'll break their hearts). Nice build Nick.

Viking Fortress

I love a little winter scene, and this is a fine example. The cracked ice is a great effect, and the snow caps on everything is very effective. Although it would appear that the little horns are just precariously balanced on those windows. Nice work Lukasz.

Moody Hoth

Flickr user j5k makes some beautiful images, and get this, it's all done in camera. Using simple lighting setups, a water tank and baking soda he achieves brilliant imagery. While the principal is simple, I can't imagine pictures like these come easy. But his patience is our benefit, and we can all admire these shots.
