A Decade Of Bumblebee
/Builder Orion Pax has a knack for turning LEGO VW Beetles into transforming Autobots, namely Bumblebee. Below we see his latest version, rooted in LEGO 10252, but below that (and dating back ten years!) is his rendition based on LEGO 10187.
Finally A Reason To Go To The Beach
/Yes, I’m a California native. No, I don’t like the beach. I know this is absolutely baffling to those that don’t live here, and especially baffling to those that do, but I don’t care for the beach. I mean, I like to look at it, and camping near it is nice, and driving along it is wonderful, but I don’t go to the beach. BUT, if I had this surfer van mech by builder Dvd, I think you would have difficulty getting me off the beach (plus I’m a sucker for old VWs).
VW Type 1
/I have a definite soft spot for classic beetles. I've told the stories before of it being the family car of my childhood and my first car as an adult. Being nothing but round makes it an exceptional challenge in bricks, but builder Everblack was up to that challenge, and this is the result. You can practically hear that flat four chugging huh?
Adventure, VW Style
/When I say "adventure", VW probably isn't the first thing that pops into your head. But for builder Pixel Fox, the terms seem to be synonymous. Here in the states they called the classic VW type 2 camper a Westfalia, and it was primarily used for weekend getaways. But in South Africa, it's known as the Syncro, and it was a go anywhere, do anything adventure mobile.
Galactic Surf Is Up, Dude
/Here's a mashup I can get behind, a classic VW type 2 bus at neo classic space! What better way to find all the tasty waves in the galaxy than strapping your board to the roof of this baby and jetting to the nearest intergalactic beach? BrickNerd LiveBuild - Volkswagen Beetle
/VW has been an important part of my life. The first family car I remember was a beetle, my first car was a beetle and I drive a beetle now. So to say I'm excited about this set is a bit of an understatement. I know this is last minute and I'm sorry I didn't announce it yesterday, but I can't wait to build this little beauty.
Join me live at 2pm PST as I build the amazing new LEGO 10252 Volkswagen Beetle live!
New Creator Beetle Coming
/I normally leave stuff like this to the sites that concentrate on news, but this makes me so giddy I had to share. The family car when I was young was a beetle, my first car was a beetle and my car now is a beetle. I've always had a deep affection for these round little wonders, and now LEGO is hooking us up with a fantastic new model. I love the retro styling and studless design, it's beautiful. The 1,167 piece set will retail for $99.99 (US). VIP members can get their grubby little mits on it July 14 and the general public can on August 1.
Super Volks
/They were ridiculous, they were brash, they were driverless, they were the Zingers, model kits from MPC. Back in the 70's it seemed you couldn't get outrageous enough (just ask Chuck Barris or ABBA) and hotrods were no exception. Builder Mad physicist clearly understands this mentality and has recreated my personal favorite from this line, the Super Volks. Who cares if it doesn't actually have seats? Just imagine how loud and fast it is!
Citrico de Mexico
/I remember in high school opening an issue of Hot VWs magazine and seeing an open wheeled beetle hot rod for the first time. It belonged to a member of the band ZZ Top if memory serves, and it blew my mind. I've been fascinated with this extreme VW mod ever since, so seeing this awesome MOC by tiler instantly perked me up. The use of the chairs for the side of the vehicle is inspired genius, just look at that contour, it's perfect.
Blank Canvas
/I have a deep affection for vintage VW. My first car was a beetle (well, technically it was a Chevy Luv, but that died awfully quick) and I also owned a bus for a while, and someday I'd like to own one again. And restoring one, as depicted in this brilliant MOC by Norton74, is a far off dream of mine. One that requires free time...and a garage not full of LEGO.
If you're a Transporter fan (or car fan in general) do yourself a favor and click through to Norton's photostream, there's a lot to love there.
Beetle Rat Rod
/Here's a fun fact, my first car was a Beetle (well technically, it was a Chevy Luv, but that broke immediately, so I don't count it) and parked outside the studio right now is my convertible Beetle. I've always loved classic VW, and I think I could find a place in my heart for even this beast by Lino M. Yes, it's ugly in a beautiful way, but that's sort of the point of rat rods. Although I do have to take issue with the engine placement...
Blue Hawaiian
/Here at BrickNerd we like to look back from time to time, and across the Pacific. My Hawaiian vacation is coming to an end and it's been lovely. I didn't get to see any cool Hawaiian style customs while I was here, but I seriously doubt I'd see anything as cool as this classic beetle from Lino M. Surf's up dude!
Vantha
/I was going to wait to post another round of VWs, but this one makes me so happy I have to share. Not only is it brilliantly built, the name is so perfect. From one of my favorite builders, and a pretty swell guy, Angus MacLane
VW Dragbus
/I'm very fond of vintage VW. As I've stated before my first car was a Beetle (well, technically it was a lifted Chevy Luv, but that was short-lived). But my third car was a VW Type 2 Transporter (AKA bus). But it was nothing near as cool as this...actually, it was a bit of a piece of crap, but I liked it. I like this too. Nice work as always Lino.
