Read MoreWhat does it mean to be LEGO steampunk? And what does it look like when you go back in time 150 years and spur on exploration and technology? Builders Max Brich and Castor-Troy take a deep dive to find out with their latest steampunk creation.
Read MoreBehold L.S.C., The LEGO Steam Company by builders Brick Rebel and Monstrophonic. This incredible collaboration was built for Lego World Utrecht 2019 and I desperately wish I could have been there to see this wondrous creation in person. There’s so much detail and steamy goodness wherever you look, and interactive powered features. A video is forthcoming and I can’t wait to see it.
Whenever I see an craft like this beautiful airship from builder Dale Harris I immediately go into filmmaker mode. I’m imagining not only this ship on a pedestal in front of a green screen, but the camera rig to shoot it, the composites to put it into whatever background is needed, the scene in which it’s featured and the music that would accompany it. Weird huh?
Check out more pics and several other excellent builds at his website harrisbricks.com.au.
Meet Captain Salvador, by dviddy, who according to the builder is “a man of conviction and skill, with a sense of hope he hides behind a gruff, grumpy exterior”. He’s also a seriously snappy dresser, just look at him, I’d follow him anywhere.
The game of kings has never been so compact and cool at the same time. Check out this stylish steampunk chess set by builder Corvus Auriac MOCs. Not only is it 100% playable but travel ready too, with pull out drawers on each side for piece storage.
I think we can all agree Batman is pretty badass, but what if he was even more badasser? I mean, we’ve seen him with armor, but was it samurai armor? And we know he likes his tech, but what if it was steampunk tech? Well wonder no more dear reader, builder M<0><0>DSWIM has brought this mashup to life for all of us to enjoy.
Fall is here. I know this by the subtle clues that have been left for me, like falling leaves, Halloween stuff in every store, and pumpkin spice everything at every turn. While I’ll happily pass on pumpkin spice marshmallows thank you very much, I do have to say I dig this imaginative and whimsical biplane from builder Markus "madstopper78" Ronge. It’s part of his larger epic fantasy world Full Steam, which it getting so much more intricate and expansive that soon I’m sure we’ll all remember watching episodes and arguing about whether or not it’s real.
This is presentation taken to the next level. Builder Markus "madstopper78" Ronge has not only crafted some amazing builds, he’s imagined an entire mini universe, Full Steam. It’s like LEGO plus fan fiction, but not just a backstory, a whole…thing! Tune into an imaginary network to watch an imaginary series featuring amazing builds, it’s brilliant. And this ship plus the display around it are just stunning. I’m not a huge Ninjago fan, but I think I’d watch this.
These folks are traveling in ultra style aboard the Royal Yacht Skytanic thanks to builder Markus "madstopper78" Ronge. Luckily for them there’s no such thing as a sky iceberg, so things should go pretty well. Click through for many more pictures of this supremely detailed ship, it’s gorgeous.
This seems so obvious I'm going to have to file it under "D" for duh, and wonder intensely why I've never seen it before, a steampunk steamship! And if the date is correct on the photo it's two years old, meaning somehow I missed it, double duh. I don't know what this motley crew is up to, some of them seem slightly on the unsavory side, but they're getting to wherever they're going in style thanks to builder Lub3e.
According to builder and LEGO steampunk legend V&A Steamworks, he was overdue for a MOC on Flickr. What a coincidence, we were overdue to feature a build by Guy here on BrickNerd, so it all worked out. Mr. Steam Cat and his mouse partner here look like they're ready for some mischief and adventure, and I'm ready to enjoy the antics.
Time, there's never enough of it. Every day I find myself racing one of these for some reason or another, I just have too much I want to accomplish. And now in a true twist of irony, here's something else I don't have time for, building a steampunk clock like Zilmrud. I'll just have to admire his, but not for too long, gotta get back to work.
Check out this absolutely epic steampunk build from CASTOR-TROY. There is so much detail and rich story telling it's kinda hard to wrap my head around. No detail pictures yet, but there are a lot of work in progress photos after the jump, so you can get a good glimpse. And the more mind boggling aspect is this is a smaller part of a collaboration, I can't wait to see the whole thing revealed.
Who can forget the moment Doc Brown and his beloved Clara appeared in this stunning steampunk time traveling train at the end of Back to the Future III? And of course the absolutely mind-blowing surprise of when it lifted off and flew away (uh, spoilers I guess?). It's a movie vehicle classic, and this version by Mister Bricks does it justice. For a detailed breakdown check out the video from our pals at Beyond the Brick.
I do appreciate a good steampunk display, and this one by builder tkel86 is the steampunkiest. One of the things I like best about it is the expanded color pallet. One of the pitfalls of the genre is over reliance on browns, copper and pearl golds, tending to make things sort of one note, but the use of tans, blues and and other colors gives this a pop while still maintaining it's steampunk roots. Add to that plenty of motion (check out the video) and you've got a real show stopper.
There's nothing Mr. Mechtorian enjoys more than a large social gathering, and BrickWorld Chicago is the perfect place. After all, that snake oil isn't going to sell itself. This wonderfully whimsical MOC by builder Ted Andes combines the style of steampunk with the shenanigans of a shyster.
It's always fun when a builder steps out of their comfort zone and takes on a new theme. It's especially fun when they bring in a little of another genre, or go full on mashup. Builder Dwalin Forkbeard dealves into space with a steampunky rocket ship in which victorians would have been proud to break the atmosphere.
If you're not familiar with Dr. Grordbort, you need to acquaint yourself. It's a rabbit hole of much steampunk goodness "where science meets violence". This pistol by Grantmasters was inspired by the Saboteur 66, one of a great many whimsical and wonderful steampunk weapons featured. It's small, much smaller than you would first think, but t's powerful.
There's no description for this whimsical and fantastic MOC by builder tkel86 so I'll have to make one up. This is Nathanial S. Berkshire's air cargo boat Windswept. He and his trusty right hand man Bootjack offer their services of transport of all manner of items in the northern skies of Florlandia, in the Willow district. The Windswept is a neutrally buoyant lighter than air craft, with turbine assist and a range of 940 nautical miles.
