I Have No Memory of this Place

Aside from the official Mines of Moria LEGO set, I don't think many people have built Balin's tomb chamber (or the Chamber of Mazarbul for all you book nerds out there). It's a really cool scene that hasn't seen much LEGO treatment. But this build by Dunedain98 remedies that. This is a spot-on recreation of the scene in the movie. Lots of attention to detail here, from the layout of the room to all the scattered books. And it's full minifig scale too, instead of that tiny version in the official set. Beautiful work all around: the texturing is fantastic.

Lord of the Rings LEGO Pinball!

Okay, so we're throwing the "don't blog the same builder more than once a day" thing out the window.  Again.  Jonas has built this amazing and fully functional LOTR pinball machine for the Iron Builder contest on Flickr.  Naturally, it makes me think about how I'd build a Battlestar Galactica pinball, but that'll have to wait. Witch-king Of Angmar

So you're a king of men, just ruling and being all kingly and stuff. And this dude shows up with a really nice, shiny ring for you. Of course you take it right? Well, if it turns out it's a ring of power, and the dude that gave it to you was the dark lord of Mordor (and he has his own ring that sorta controls yours), and now you're destined to be a ringwraith. but hey, at least you're the leader right? And then a brick artist named nameless_member builds a nifty MOC of your helm, so you have that going for you.

2015...You...Shall Not....PASS!!!!

For some reason everyone uses the analogy of old man time welcoming the baby new year, but this is really how it goes down, as recreated by builder K.Kreations. 2015 was certainly an eventful year, with good times and bad, but now Gandalf is here to put the smackdown on it. Happy New Year everyone!

Skippy And Burt On The Wall

The battle raged on as Skippy and Burt made their way to the top of the wall, bows in hand. Their only task, defend the drain under the wall. Before them was an imposing sight, thousands of bloodthirsty orcs, hellbent on their destruction. As they settled into position, Skippy spotted a particular orc in the throng.

SKIPPY
Hey, what's that really big orc doing?

BURT
He's running toward us with a huge sparkler! Bit late to be celebrating New Year! What a buffoon!

SKIPPY
Where is he going? Doesn't he know we're all done with that holiday? I'm already writing the wrong date on my checks.

BURT
Yup, day late and a dollar short eh mate? Looks like he's heading into the drain down there.

Kaboom.

Wraiths On Treads

Here's a thing of nightmares, or maybe a nerdgasmic mashup, up to you. Builder Chris Darmawan dared to imagine what the Nazgul would do with a little military upgrade, and I have to say it would be terrifying to see this roaring at you across the rocky plains of Mordor. It's like Batman and the Witch King got together and spent a little time in the garage. 

Oh and if it wasn't cool enough standing still, it's motorized!

Minas Tirith

This micro scale Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings is beautiful. I always marvel at the ability of skilled builders like lisqr to imply more detail than is actually there, and to find more detail in otherwise fairly plain bricks. Like the use of the grill tiles on their sides to make tiny windows, brilliant.

"No One Back Home Is Going To Believe This"

While I've always thought that the name oliphaunt was just silly, these four-tusked behemoths were quite impressive in Lord Of The Rings. And this mini fig scale version by Simply Complex is every bit as impressive, and huge. This was built for the Middle Earth LEGO Olympics over on MOCpages, and will be certainly turn some heads.

In The House Of Tom Bombadil

I'm a fan of Lord Of The Rings. And while many fans took some offense or were at least disappointed when Tom Bombadil didn't make the cut in Peter Jackson's epic trilogy I have to admit I didn't care. It's always struck me as sort of superfluous and odd part of the book. But perhaps if I had seen this charming MOC by Sergeant Chipmunk I would have had a clearer picture in my head. Then again, there's those songs...

"There Is Only One Lord Of The Rings"

Don't you just hate it when an all-powerful supernatural being tries to take over the world? Meet Sauron, from Middle Earth. He's the tall, dark and ambitious type, with big plans for Mordor and whatever else realms he might just, you know, take by force with an orc army. This version by Legonardo Davidy doesn't pose much threat though, you could just pop that one ring off and poof, he's back in the parts bin.

At The End Of All Things

Ripped from one of the most emotional scenes in Return of the King, builder Paul treats us to an amazing recreation of Frodo and Samwise's rescue by the eagles from Mount Doom. The excellent use of lighting under the trans orange lava pieces really makes the build and brings the whole scene alive.

Edoras

A second phenomenal Tolkien build in one week? Infomaniac brings us this, the great hall of Meduseld, in the capitol city of Edoras, in the land of Rohan. Here King Theoden went all bonkers and stuff, thanks to Wormtongue and Saruman, the jerks.

The Council Of Elrond

When the official Council of Elrond set was announced this is what I pictured, then I saw what it really was and, well...meh. This is gorgeous though. The second you look at it you can almost hear the Rivendell music playing. The most delightful detail is Sam, Merry and Pippin all watching from the outside.
