At the time I was doing creature effects and animatronics, everything was fiberglass, rubber and servos. I had been watching the development of CGI with mild interest for years, but was never terribly impressed. This movie blew me away, and I remember saying to myself "we're finally there, time to switch to pixels". Immediately after I bought an Amiga computer and started teaching myself 3D. It's also hard to believe that BrickNerd turns five today (well, the day I registered the company, the blog doesn't officially turn five until July 1st), so it seems appropriate I should be celebrating the five year anniversary of this endeavor and admiring this sculpture by DOGOD Brick Design, two pivotal moments in my life.
While I'm not a sports fan, even I instantly recognized the logo for the National Basketball Association. Having attempted similar MOCs in this style I can truly appreciate how difficult something like this is (and how few angles and curves there are in bricks) which makes me even more impressed at how closely it matches the real logo, nice work DOGOD Brick Design.
The fine humans at Geek & Sundry reached out to me last month to help them roll out a new look and logo for their brand. I had a great time building this and shooting a time-lapse. It was a lot of work, but well worth the effort.
It is hard to convey the effect Star Wars had on me. The movie came out when I was nine, the perfect age to warp me for life. It is in my blood. As we celebrate one of my favorite unofficial holidays, I love all the Star Wars MOCs that show up in my Flickr feed. But this one by Legohaulic just blew me away. I have never seen any brick-built logo so perfect before, it's amazing. Not only that, but it's using a load of the seed part from his current battle in Iron Builder. WANT!
Classic space has been on my mind a lot these days (you'll know why when Beyond The Brick, the LEGO documentary comes out) so this immediately caught my eye. LEGOLAND master builder and awesome guy Joel Baker confesses that he has hidden these in a few Minilands, sounds like a scavenger hunt...go!
Tested should be familiar to all you fellow nerds out there. It's basically the online home of the Mythbusters and friends. Well, they have a little segment that's fairly new called the LEGO Mystery Build, where they put together a small custom kit. Carlmerriam's latest MOC is their logo, and it's spiffy.
I recall many Christmases from my childhood, some more vividly than others. One in particular was a good year, in addition to my Planet of the Apes Treehouse and cool art easel, me and my brother both got football uniforms. Neither of us were particularly into football but what kid doesn't want to armor up and ransack the house? I got Rams, my brother got 49ers... Sorry, it's Christmas eve and this MOC reminded me of that. Speaking of which, HOLY COW LOOK AT THIS THING! This is one of the finest examples of brick-built logo and lettering I've ever seen. Builder Tobias Buckdahn also did a time lapse of the build, you can bet I'll be watching this over and over.
