Read MoreHe’s one of, if not the, most recognized and famous comic book villains in the world, Batman’s titular nemesis Joker. I almost said “popular” but I find it difficult to use that term for a raving psychotic, even if he is a favorite among fans. And builder ZetoVince must be a fan to dedicate this amount of care, time and effort to this incredible bust. The contouring, shaping and color use on this is outstanding, making it one of the best characterizations I’ve ever seen in bricks.
Seeing this excellent set of Batman busts by Build Better Bricks reminds me that it’s been far too long since I’ve seen The Dark Knight. It’s been argued that Heath Ledger portrayed the best Joker ever to explode on the big screen, and not just because he blew everything up. And while Christian Bale makes me giggle every time he does his scary Batman voice, he did a pretty good job with the role. I think it’s time to break out the blu-ray.
A bit more ominous winter creations...but an interesting (and perhaps even funny) one at that. Here we see Joker himself have a bit of playful fun, crafting his very own themed snowman. Though it may look innocent on the outside, I'm sure on the inside there's quite a bit of explosives and Joker cards just waiting to be released. A very interesting build by Sad Brick.
"Do you wanna know...how I got these scars?" Yeeees! Heath Ledger's Joker is incredibly unnerving and crazy...which is why he is my favorite cinematic version of the Joker we have yet to see. Ledger's role will be incredibly tough to beat. J.B.F. was commissioned to build this incredibly character version of this Joker, and I must say I'm jealous that this is going to someone else! The eyes and smile on this build are just as unnerving as the real deal. Such a creative and well done model! MWA-MwAhAhAhAhA!
Tim Lydy, the LEGO Builder of Gotham City, built an incredible scene containing acid, yet will not burn you (for it is too awesome). A place of chemicals, a place of origin. . .Ace Chemicals is famous in the world of Batman, mostly for what it didn't produce intentionally. That's right, Ace Chemicals is where the Joker became disfigured in a dramatic fight with the Caped Crusader. This recreation is detailed to another level entirely. Covered in so many styles of greebling, it's hard to find any simple, standard bricks in the walls. Take a minute and zoom in to really appreciate all the detail packed into this build. Careful not to fall in, though!
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! The most famous villain in the world, the Joker. This dude has been causing Batman nothing but headaches since 1940. This version by builder MaverickDengo wasn't inspired by any particular source, but certainly has a more comic/cartoon feel to him. It also happens to be his first character build, very impressive, that mouth is a clever work of art.
According to research one of the things that makes a perfect couple is common goals and mutual admiration. What could be more descriptive than The Joker and Harley Quinn? They both share the common goal of bringing down the Bat, and each is infatuated with the other. Sure they're raving psychopaths, but that's beside the point. Two more of Tim Lydy's brilliant Forms of Gotham collection, and an inspiration to couples everywhere.
One of the things I look forward to at BrickCon every year (at least every year I get to go) is seeing Brickbaron's over-the-top MOCs in person. It seems every one of his creations out does the last, and the stakes just continue to grow. This latest Batman inspired MOC is jaw-dropping in every aspect. The bold, bright colors and clean lines make this look like an illustration from a distance, leaping right off the page of a comic book. But the architecture is the unsung hero of this MOC, just check out that art deco theater, it's gorgeous. I could prattle on and on, but pictures speak louder than words (and there's more pictures if you click through).
I've spent SO much time over the last couple years engrossed in the world of Gotham and Batman, so much so I'm frankly a bit burned out. But this wonderful microscale Batman set got me instantly excited, so there's still some hope for me. I LOVE this, all the tiny details, all the figures, all the vehicles and play features, it's awesome. I generally try to avoid posting LEGO Ideas stuff, but I would love to see this actually made. Head over to LEGO Ideas to support.
I don't care if it's cool to bash on Burton's Batman, I'm not gonna. When it came out in 1989 I was super busy at work and didn't get to it for a couple weeks. In that time I listened to all my coworkers and friends bash on it for some reason or another. So When I finally went to see it my expectations were understandably really low...I LOVED it. Keaton is still my favorite Batman and Bruce. And while I find Jack's makeup a bit distracting, his Joker was pretty awesome. I think builder Cpt. Brick is in my camp, judging by this brilliant MOC of Joker's parade at the end of the movie.
Here at BrickNerd we like to look back from time to time, and to Gotham's darker places. Batman villains have been on my mind recently, so I thought I'd dig up an older favorite of mine. This comic cover inspired scene by Julius No features not only the caped crusader and and his nemesis Joker, but also one of the best LEGO representations of the most popular female character in the DC universe, Harley Quinn.
I do believe that if I found myself a billionaire vigilante, with a penchant for gadgets and black everything (and sometimes very dark gray), I don't think I'd be too keen to have a spastic teenage sidekick. I know there's plenty of Robin fans out there, but builder captain smog is clearly not one of them.
