Wait, What?

That's one of my favorite unintentional reactions to a MOC. And I'm guessing you may not have even realized the image below is brick built yet have you? Yeah, take a closer look (now close your mouth, you look silly). It's a self deprecating parody piece by Sheo, lamenting the lack of notifications on his Flickr page. Show him some love.

Book Of Nightmares

Yeah, this is the stuff of nightmares. Builder 6kyubi6 has crafted a MOC scary enough to make the strongest soul shiver in fear. Can you imagine opening a book just to have this reach out for you? This was built for the LUG'Est Black & What Flickr group.

This Plush Nerdly Can Be Yours!

There's only about two weeks left in the Next Level Nerdly contest on Flickr, and part of the first place prize package is now chillin' at BrickNerd Studios thanks to Flat Bonnie. This is one of only three in the world, hand made and individually numbered (this one is 02). He's super squishy and awesome.

All you need to do is take Nerdly to the next level and upload a picture to the official Flickr group. Not attending Brick Magic? No problem, you can still enter. But if you are coming, please bring your Nerdly to show off. And right now the odds are incredibly good since there's not a single entry yet (meh). But I know taking it to the next level takes time, and I've heard some really cool ideas, so I'm looking forward to what you build. So break out the bricks and I'll see you at Brick Magic!

The Chain Gang

There's an event taking place on Flickr between builders Legopold and joeseidon called the Chain Challenge, and you really need to check it out. They are both building eleven MOCs, and many of them are brilliant. These two are among my favorites, but there's many more and they aren't done yet, go see for yourself!

HARDnuary 2015

If you haven't already heard, HARDnuary is once again underway. What's that you ask? Well, quite simply it's a building challenge for hardware and everyday items, sort of the mastery of the mundane. There are no prizes, but you wouldn't know that by the enthusiasm of builder KOS brick, who has committed to a MOC every day in January, and so far it's been impressive.

Nerdvember Is Over

Yes, Nerdvember 2014 has come to a close. To say I'm overwhelmed with the entries is an understatement. I count 77 completely unique Nerdlys, impressive indeed. I can't say which are my favorites, not that it matters since I'm not judging, but I don't want to show favoritism. I will say that the creativity, humor and skills of BrickNerd readers is amazing. The panel of judges will be invited today, and they will have a couple days to deliberate. I'll announce the winners here soon. Stand by!

Welcome To Nerdvember!

Welcome to Nerdvember, our new favorite month! Yes, Halloween is over and the holidays are weeks away, it's too early to think about Thanksgiving so it's time to get your nerd on! Get out the bricks, download instructions for Nerdly and start reimagining. What would he be like in classic castle? How about as a pirate? Could he possibly be a time lord? It's all up to you! Read the Official Rules, join the Flickr group and get building!

The Part Challenge

This is a two part post. The first order of business to attend to is this fantastic MOC by Peteris Sprogis. Brick built lettering can be difficult, especially if you want some panache to it, but Peteris pulls it off beautifully. Although it is important to point out that this is the second iteration of this MOC, because sometimes a "P" can look an awful lot like an "F".

The second order of business is to bring up what this MOC is actually promoting. It's a Flickr group called, you guessed it, Part Challenge. It's sort of like Iron Builder for the rest of us. Check it out and get building!
