Red and Wicked: A Super Sovereign SpaceSHIP
/Red alert, BrickNerd fans! It’s what you’ve been waiting for: A huge, ginormous, mongo SpaceSHIP! And just to change things up a bit, it’s RED! Our favorite color! With some white accents for visual interest. Behold! The Sovereign Class (Monarch sub-class) Super Frigate. Reference photo here.
It’s the latest creation from our old pal iomedes !… He’s certainly not a stranger to this kind of scale. You may recall his Butch Bunny robot from a few years back. He’s also known to employ his family as scale references. (Hopefully, he doesn’t throw it into the pool just to see if it floats like this excited LUG we featured.)
The SHIP (a Seriously Huge Investment in Parts) is a bit bigger than a rover, and a few months early for this year’s SHIPtember, so it is obviously one thing only: a LEGO passion project! Here’s one more shot. Strike Formation! Charge the rail guns! All ahead flank!
That was fun, right?!? I just want to pick that beast up, and swoosh it around for a minute or two. Or at least until my arms give out. Looks pretty heavy… Here’s the view from the back.
Anyway, I want to take a second to reference back to Ted’s recent article the other day about photography and composite imagery since iomedes has created these composites so well. Taking quality pictures of MOCs this big can be a challenge. Especially indoors. So don’t be afraid to take that build outside for a photo session! I prefer an overcast day, morning or early evening. That way you don’t get too many shiny spots on your MOC. The lighting is diffused and more-or-less infinitely distant.
It’s also good to remember that you don’t always have to get the whole subject in the frame. That’s why I liked that first shot so much. It’s right up close and personal, conveying that sense of movement. Swoosh!!! Until next time!
