We’re in the Mooooood for an Amazing MOC
/You might think I would fear ridicule for reviewing this MOC a whole week after Chinese New Year, but I’m no coward! Taiwanese AFOL Ian Hou (aka DOGOD Brick Design on Flickr) has been delighting us with an animal for each Lunar New Year for the past four years, so get out your steak sauce because today we’re going to enjoy his Cow 牛 for our MOC Spotlight.
Marinating for sixty days on the project, Ian churned up many internet photographs for reference. No bull, he even buttered up a Veterinarian to help him check the accuracy of the limbs and body parts. To get a result so lifelike, Ian clearly stewed on every little detail. The bespeckled bovine was ready for market on the 25th of January, weighing in at a beefy 520 LEGO pieces.
Chewing the fat with the builder about the construction process made me understand some of the clever connections he grilled up, and realize how difficult it was to start with the T-shaped structure of the nose. He also employed several rare elements, well, medium rare at least, designing the rest of the head. Take stock of the way he transitioned underneath between colors—udderly fascinating.
Within this smorgasbord of both curved and straight slopes, Ian managed to include a big black spot in the shape of his mother country Taiwan on the left and a branded abbreviation TW on the right shoulder. Building skills like that are legendairy!
