The Winners of The AdoraBuild Are…

Last month, we asked you to get comfy and build your most adorable LEGO creations—something so adorable that we couldn’t help but go, “Awww!” And wow, did you all bring on the cute! We received 115 entries, and we were absolutely overwhelmed by all the happy vibes!

To recap, the AdoraBuild had three categories: Small Scale, Sweet Scenes and Cuddly Characters. It took a while and a lot of deliberation, but we’ve finally chosen who captured the essence of cuteness in brick-built form. And by the end of this article, one builder who entered all three categories and earned the greatest number of votes will be crowned our Master AdoraBuilder!

There were so many praiseworthy builds—it is almost funny that a contest about cuddly things was so HARD to judge. Each BrickNerd contributor had an equal vote, and the results were very, very close.

Three key criteria were considered by the judges:

  1. Concept: Is the idea cute?

  2. Quality: Is the creation built well?

  3. Presentation: Is the creation composed and photographed in a way that enhances the adorability?

So without further ado, release the cuteness!

Small Scale Honorable Mentions

We’ll start with our honorable mentions on the smaller side of cute. These are just a few of the stand-out entries that we enjoyed, including two adorable octopi playing with toy boats and some yummy treats! Each celebrated all things “smol.” Congratulations to these four builders who amazed us with their creativity, even with a build of only a dozen or so parts!

Small Scale Winner: Bricktacular Builds

Our Small Scale winner shrunk down their creation to an adorable size beyond even our comprehension. The prize sets of 10329 Tiny Plants & 76217 I am Groot (or $100 of the LEGO of their choice) goes to Bricktacular Builds for their “Mini Avacado Toast” MOC. The tiny bread slices created with popsicles warmed our hearts, and the Chima heads as avocados were as smooth as guacamole. Add to that some deft camera work to get the build to look perfect, and we have ourselves a winner!

Sweet Scenes Honorable Mentions

We were blown away by all the heartfelt stories and descriptions in the Sweet Scenes category. From tender family moments to animals in their element, these six builders each brought to life a moment of joy and happiness. Thanks to everyone for making our hearts grow three sizes by judging these MOCs!

Sweet Scenes Winner: Kelly Bartlett

But there was one MOC that melted our hearts just with the sheer scale of cuteness. Our Sweet Scenes prize sets of 41757 Botanical Garden & 71453 Izzie and Bunchu the Bunny (or $100 of LEGO) go to Kelly Bartlett for her “Reading Nook.” When we wrote that sweet scene could be a character escaping to a comfy library nook, we didn’t think someone would take us literally! (Seriously, check out the video.) We were duly impressed with the creative techniques for the molding and outlet, making Mortimer’s nook a place we want to snuggle up with a good book, cheese collection included.

Cuddly Characters Honorable Mentions

Our most competitive category was Cuddly Characters—we received so many entries with the most adorably cute creatures that it was the hardest category to judge by far. These six builds were some of our favorites, from googly eyes to little black dots full of emotion. We literally want to pick up all these builds and squeeze them they look so cuddly! From dinos and dragons to crustaceans and forest creatures, the building skills, element choices, and presentation of all these MOCs were seriously outstanding. It killed us with cuteness that they couldn’t all be winners, but congratulations on the honorable mentions!

Cuddly Characters Winner: Tyler Clites

It is somehow both fitting and ironic that our Cuddly Character prize sets of 43249 Stitch & 43226 Disney Duos (or $100 of LEGO) are being awarded to Tyler Clites for his “Bubble Dragon.” Every single piece on this innocent little dragon is absolutely needed and perfectly placed, from the adorable teeth to tiny toenails. The sheer emotion of wonder accomplished in such a small space makes us nearly want to cry with happiness. Add a little bubble magic, and you have a delightful dragon we want a plushie made of, stat!

Master AdoraBuilder: Cecilie Fritzvold

An astonishing 17 people submitted builds in all three cute categories, vying for the title of Master AdoraBuilder. After the votes were tallied, we are so very happy to award set 40712 Micro Rocket Lanchpad, 5008785 Blue Astronaut Plush, a BrickNerd swag box, our coveted Golden Nerdly Trophy, and the title of Master AdoraBuilder to… Cecilie Fritzvold!

All three of her builds were outstanding honorable mentions in their categories. Her “Baby Mario Kart” exudes playfulness at a small scale with baby versions of all your favorite characters. Kudos on the custom karts made from so few parts, and even building a banana peel when a molded one exists. No blue shell here, that’s a winner.

Her “Ninja Diet” made us squeee at this tiny turtle’s excitement to be eating a slice of pizza. The red bandana sitting by his side tells of adventures to come—and who knew so much happiness could be conveyed by a simple hot dog for the eye! Add to that a floured surface ready for pizza making and you have a tasty treat that can’t help put a smile on your face.

Lastly, we loved the build and story of Cecilie’s “To be a teddy bear” MOC, which tells the tale of a lost toy creating a friend out of a topiary. This creation embodies the AdoraBuild because it has all three categories in one build—a cuddly character playing with a small scale in a sweet scene. (Now all we need is a photo of her holding the teddy bear holding the topiary.) The title of Master Adorabuilder is well deserved and hereby awarded!

Congratulations to all our winners! We salute your ability to bring out the adorableness in the bricks and take us to our happy place. We will be in contact about your prizes soon.

BrickNerd Contributor Contest

But wait, there’s more cuteness ahead! In addition to the public contest, some of our own BrickNerd contributors wanted to join the fun. Our amazing patrons voted on the most adorable build and chose Ann Megacolormix as the winner for her sweet kitty—the humor won our panel over and made them smile. Congratulations!
