Sugar and Spice: LEGO Gingerbread Houses Good Enough To Eat

Gingerbread has so much going for it—deep, sweet browns, rich, spicy aromas, and the splendid color contrasts of fluffy white frosting and colorful candies. Innately playful and consistently colorful, gingerbread houses are perfect for recreation in LEGO bricks. So this December, let’s cut some calories by enjoying our gingerbread LEGO-style!

Let’s start the tour of gingerbread town with LittleJohn’s crispy Gingerbread House. This mouthwatering creation was built for an Iron Builder round. See if you can guess the seed part!

If your gingerbread men need a little more space—or you want more cookies to eat—consider this Gingerbread Manor by Stilly Bricks that looks delicious! Kudos for using yellow, a non-traditional gingerbread house frosting color.

Grant Davis must have pulled out his Christmas tree in August in order to photograph this creation. Once again, it’s a Gingerbread House fit for an Iron Builder, though you may have a harder time guessing the seed part this time around! (And no, it isn’t all those white rubber bands!)

Gingerbread houses come in all shapes and sizes, including this adorably cute version of Carl’s house from the Pixar movie Up! by Jonas Kramm. Note the blending of nougat, dark orange, and tan for a lighter colored gingerbread house than usual.

But wait, they get smaller! I built this tiny Gingerbread House out of a mere eleven pieces—plus a bit of landscaping.

Even in the gingerbread world though, some gingerbread men live a little higher than the rest. Sleepless Night has built a Gingerbread Castle for the royalty among the cookies, stained glass and peaked towers included!

But living like a king isn’t all fun and games. Sometimes the elves rebel, if this depiction of Gingy’s Revenge by Mike Sinclair is to be believed. But it’s to be feared that the chocolate moat will slow them down. (This battle scene built by BrickNerd fan Mike is currently on display at the LEGO House Masterpiece Gallery if you want to see it in person!)

Not every gingerbread man, however, is content with a house or even a castle. Some take to the skies, though not all is peaceful up there, as Swan Dutchman demonstrates in his Gingerbread Dogfight. (Look for a whole slew of Star Wars gingerbread recolors that took the community by storm a few years ago—they are scrumptious!)

I hope these gingerbread homes have inspired you to build something sweet—or at least made you hungry. So go make something, be it a LEGO MOC or a cookie… or both!
